We recognise independent schools as a most valuable resource and understand that over-subscription must be balanced with the preference for low class sizes, the crucial attraction in comparison with state schooling.  Whilst teaching and care staff perform a high quality of work with the children and teenagers, school boards and senior staff also deal with the business side of running and maintaining the property and school resources.
The planning of a much needed extension or new building may need a string of consultations with professionals, boards and staff.  However, once a need has been established and agreed, the choices naturally clarify.  A new nursery unit or year group suite of classrooms will automatically allow intake to increase, without compromising class numbers, improving cash flow by way of tuition fees.  Whereas a new pavilion, hall complex or changing room block has the potential to host events, creating extra revenue and developing the range and quality of facilities on show to new families.

Deciding is the easy part.  What about planning permission, contractors, funding, time on site, school disruption, project management, delays and deadlines?  The first step is to consult with the chosen designer or architect on site.  Once plans are drawn, permission can be applied for from the local council.  However, keep construction methods in mind – sustainable structures are most desirable to councils and lend a green tint to the school ethos with their low energy needs.

Ordering your new extension or extra classrooms to be manufactured with accredited SIPS panels ticks the environmental and rapid-build boxes.  The construction time can be limited to two weeks, instead of three months with a traditional build method.  It is worth looking for an accreditated SIPS structure because there are many poor quality imitations at the moment, being marketed and priced as SIPS without the thermal benefits or durability.  A certificate number from the British Board of Agrément offers the security that your project will be fire safe, weather-tight, energy efficient and durable.  In our case, we have certificates to verify that our structures have excellent U-Values (which effectively save 40% on heating, cooling and lighting).
Studioni directors can come in to consult with your architect in the early phases and manage your manufacture and installation.  It is possible to incorporate a language lab, science facilities, computer room, kitchens and office space, classrooms and a new pavilion, all with a contemporary style and ability-friendly access.  Contact us to discuss your project.
